In order to provide drinking water to the inhabitants of the southern regions of our country, the Water Basin Agency for Sakia El Hamra and Wadi Al-Dhahab has, over the past three years, undertaken a significant number of water projects in collaboration with the Ministry of Equipment and Water. The goal is to reduce pressure on water resources in several regions, which have steadily decreased due to consecutive years of drought and the impact of climate change on these specific areas.

In a summary presented by Mr. Sidi Mokhtar Al-Konti, the Director of the Water Basin Agency for Sakia El Hamra and Wadi Al-Dhahab, in the presence of representatives from the Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab region, the regional council, and several parliamentarians and members of the agricultural chamber in the region, it was emphasized that 21 exploratory drillings were completed at a cost of 11.4 million dirhams as part of water resource exploration activities.

Regarding rainwater harvesting, the same official confirmed the completion of 5 rainwater harvesting basins at a cost of 0.6 million dirhams. As for the construction of mills, the agency itself completed 10 mills at a cost of 1.16 million dirhams. The director also confirmed the completion of pump tests at 14 points within the agency’s jurisdiction, with a cost estimated at 0.8 million dirhams.
