Official data obtained from the “Al Ma Diyalna” platform indicates that the Water Basin Agency for Sakia El Hamra and Wadi Al-Dhahab has entered into numerous agreements aimed at protecting water public property and addressing issues related to drought and low rainfall. Additionally, the agency is working on the completion of several water facilities during the upcoming period, extending until the year 2027.
According to the same information, an agreement was concluded between the agency and the General Directorate of Meteorology to exchange data regarding the hydrological status of water basins within the agency’s jurisdiction. The agency, in collaboration with all stakeholders in the water sector, is engaged in the construction of the five planned dams as part of the National Program for Drinking Water and Irrigation Supply for the years 2020-2027. These dams include small dams on Wadi Al-Atabi in the municipal community of Klimate Al-Foula, Wadi Wain Frkan in the municipal community of Bir Anzarane, Wadi Al-Jannah and Wadi Lakrad in the municipal community of Oussert, and Wadi Safa in the municipal community of Imilili.
In this context, the official information reveals that the agency is exploring the possibility of constructing additional small dams on the valleys of Jloua, Takendzt, and Tawqba. Furthermore, there are plans to raise the Bolotad and Al-Garak dams in the Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab region. These proposals have been suggested for inclusion in the second phase of the program for the years 2024-2027. These sites will also be considered in future studies conducted by the agency and the Directorate of Water Facilities.
